Population and Demographics
According to the 2010 Census, the population of the NORTH BARRIER ISLAND community is 5,291. The population is 99% white, less than 1% black, and 1% Hispanic. Foreign Born persons comprise 7% of NORTH BARRIER ISLAND‘s total population, compared to 10.5% countywide.
The median age of NORTH BARRIER ISLAND residents is 68.4 years, the 2nd highest out of 25 communities. Children (under age 18) comprise 5% of the NORTH BARRIER ISLAND population, compared to 19% countywide. Seniors (aged 65 and above) comprise 62% of the NORTH BARRIER ISLAND population, compared to 27% countywide.
Changes in Population and Demographics
Between 2000 and 2010, the population of NORTH BARRIER ISLAND increased by 1,593 residents. With respect to age, the community was older in 2010 than in 2000.
